Update  to my previous review----as of 7/14/26
My dog recently had surgery with this fabulous team.  A surgical cut which was huge, could not even be seen and healed so beautifully.  My dog was up and around the next day. This crew rocks. The price was very reasonable, the care and attention we received was priceless!!! Being recommended to Dr. Petrone was truly a blessing!!

One month ago----

I would like to respond to the negative review left previously to mine---- I would be very suspicious of a veterinarian who would treat your cat or dog without doing diagnostic tests  and without updating your pet’s vaccinations.
It always amazes me how whenever pet owners have to pay to be treated by  a veterinarian  they  automatically decide it is not a good practice!!!!!I  I have had nothing but positive  experiences with the new owners of this animal practice. They  are trying very hard to modernize the antiquated policies left behind by the previous owner who I heard many negative  stories about.  The current doctors , especially Dr. Patrone  who I dealt with so far have been considerate, knowledgeable, and compassionate and may I say reasonably priced.  They offered me logical options to address why I brought my dog to see them and explained the reasoning for every test recommended.   I’m hoping  pet owner’s in the area support this practice as the more you do the more they will be able to grow into a full service hospital, which we do not have  ( similar to the other locations they practice out of).
It is also worth mentioning that Dr Patrone  has been very helpful in her other locations where they are having problems  with feral cats reproducing at an alarming rate  and has offered to assist me with TNR for local feral cats  which many Veterinarian hospitals will not do!!!
As a person involved in animal rescue for over 40 years I can tell you from experience the veterinarian who hands you the lowest bill is not always the one who is most interested in your pet’s  well being or the one most qualified to solve their health issues.

Brought both my dogs in for wellness exams this past week and had wonderful experiences! The vets are very caring and kind! They answered all my questions and provided me with lots of info without making me feel pressured to buy. Prices are reasonable too! Definitely found our new vets!

They charge an incredibly fair price for care relative to other veterinarians in the area. Want to give them 5 stars to encourage other people to come here so that places like this can stay open and don’t suffer to the pressures of inflation.

Update: So I see a lot of reviews saying their services are overpriced since the old vet retired. I paid $275 to get my cat neutered and microchipped. not only that, but my cat suffered some complications during his procedure and needed further operation Dr. Vokrel was an absolute champion. She stayed with my cat all night to look after him and fix the issue. She called in her business partner to help operate on my cat and they did all this without charging me more than the $275 they initially quoted me. they could’ve easily charged me more, but chose not to that sort of thing deserves recognition that only did they give their all for my cat who is fine now by the way, but they did so without making me also worry if I could pay for it.

I had a great first time experience at Matawan Animal Hospital today! The receptionist was very kind and the vet tech was awesome! She made my cat feel very comfortable. Dr. Pla was extremely knowledgeable and answered all my questions. He gave me plenty of options without being pushy. The price of the visit was very reasonable. Very happy to have found a great practice for my kitties 😺 Thank you for taking such great care of my boy Sylvester!
